Everything you need to know for the Memphis Cup of Nations

Tournament Format

The Memphis Cup of Nations features a 7v7 soccer tournament format with 16 teams representing different nations. Teams will compete over two days in a combination of group stage and knockout rounds.

Each team represents a specific country or nation, bringing together the diverse international community of Memphis to celebrate through the beautiful game of soccer.

The Memphis Cup of Nations follows a World Cup-style tournament format. Teams compete in initial group stage matches using a round-robin system. The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stage finals between Group A and Group B winners. All remaining teams participate in concurrent placement matches to determine final tournament standings.

Each team should consist of ‘One’ Nationality.

Uniforms

Teams must all indicate their color on the Team Registration Form.

If teams have conflicting uniform colors, tournament organizers will provide colored pinnies to distinguish teams during matches.

Shin guards are required for each player.

Slide tackling is not allowed.

Team Requirements

  • Minimum 7 players, maximum 15 players per team
  • All players must be 18 years or older and not currently playing for a TSSAA High School Team
  • Teams represent a specific country or nation
  • Signed waiver forms for each participant
  • Team captain must be designated

Tournament Rules

  • 7v7 format (6 field players + 1 goalkeeper)
  • 15-minute halves with 5-minute halftime
  • One referee for Group Stage matches; Two referees for Semi-Finals and Finals
  • Penalty kicks are permitted
  • No offsides penalties
  • All out-of-bounds plays restart with free kicks (no throw-ins).
  • Unlimited substitutions allowed
  • Field size is half of the IFAB standard field size
  • Goal size is 6'H x 18'W (1.8m x 5.5m)
  • Points system:
    • Win: 3 points
    • Tie: 1 point
    • Loss: 0 points
  • Tiebreakers to determine finalists:
    • Head-to-head
    • Goal difference
    • Least goals allowed
    • Most goals scored
    • Penalties

Sanctioning

The Memphis Cup of Nations tournament is sanctioned with US Soccer through USSSA. Tournament director will receive $2,000,000 liability and facility insurance for weekend tournament.

Referees

Mark Herrington will serve as the tournament's Referee Assignor. Brian Maness will serve as the Referee Coordinator.
